Tobi Britton is a mixed media artist known for her whimsical take on everything she creates. She believes that Art is a powerful vehicle for transformation. She also believes that sparkling is not just a quality that glitter and rhinestones possess, it is something that happens deep within us when we are truly happy. Her art is playful and whimsical, it comes from a magical realm she calls “her sparkle center”.
Working with a wide variety of materials and techniques, Tobi is always coming up with new creative twists on the standard way of doing things. “Sometimes it’s the rebel in me that makes me stray from the usual, and sometimes I figure out a new technique because I can’t find the proper tool I need… so I make up a new way to get it done! Her classes are creative and most of all FUN!! The pixies will make sure of that!
She loves working with metals, beads, fibers and vintage jewelry and repurposing vintage items with her magical, sparkly twist. “I love finding the magic in things and making beautiful art with them. Beauty rocks!!”
Creating beauty has been in Tobi’s life for as long as she can remember. The first 25 years of her career were spent as an Emmy nominated Makeup Artist and owner of a popular makeup school in NYC. She was head makeup artist for the tv show “Cosby”, and taught over a thousand fledgeling makeup artists the art of makeup in her beloved school “The Makeup Shop.” She has worked on many photo shoots, TV commercials, films and celebrities during her career. After closing her shop in 2006, she turned to art- or as she says- “started working on canvases that don’t talk back!” Art helped her make the transition and helped heal her heart so she could get her sparkle back. “It makes me so happy to create beautiful things that make people smile!” She now splits her time between the makeup world and the magical realm of “The Pink Pixie Forest”- her art business.
For Tobi, the only thing she loves more than creating is “giving back”, which she does through her teaching.
“My favorite thing in the world is to see that little light turn on in someone by showing them that something is possible. As much as I absolutely love creating things, I truly love mentoring others and igniting their spark- so they can SPARKLE!!!
